"Meg' Salyer was elected as Ward 6 Councilmember on November 4, 2008, the only Councilmember ever to be elected on the same day as a presidential election; and WHER-EAS, Councilwoman Salyer became the ninth woman elected to City Council by winning the special election to fill the vacated Ward 6 seat; she was reelected to a full-term on March l, 2011, with 63 percent ofthe vote and again on March 3, 201 5, with 53 percent ofthe vote; and WIIEREAS, during her I I years of service, Councihvoman Salyer served on the City's Sports Facilities Oversight Board. Riverfront Redevelopmant Authority, Public Property Authority. Environmental Assistance Trust, Municipal Facilities Authority, Economic Development Trust Fairgrounds Trust, Convention and Visitors Commission, Civic Center Foundation, Myriad Gardens Foundation, MAPS 3 Citizens Advisory Board, Boathouse Foundation Board of Directors, Greater Oklahoma City Sports Consortium, Regional Transit Taskforce. Wheeler Development District Review Committee, City Council Finance and Capital Improvement Committee, City Council Economic Development Committee and City Council Social Serv-ices Committee; and WEEREAS, Margaret S. "Meg" Salyer served this community in many capacities beyond Councilmember-she was the first woman elected as President of the Rotary Club of Oklahoma City, served as a Trustee of Oklahoma City University, and contributed her time and expertise to Saint Anthony Hospital, United Way, Leadership Oklahoma, Kirkpatrick Foundation, Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics Foundation, Junior League of Oklahoma City, Downtown School Site Selection Committee, Oklahoma Partnership for School Readiness Board, Downtown Oklahoma City, Inc., and the Allied Arts Foundation; and WHEREAS, Councilwoman Salyer has been recognized for her community service, eaming the Urban Pioneer Award from the Plaza District Association, the Pathmaker Award from the Oklahoma City/County Historical Society, the Neal Horton Arvard for downtown revitalization from Dorvntown Oklahoma City, Inc., and the Mary Baker Rumsey Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Junior League of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame, Jtnrnctl Record Woman of the Year, and OKC Friday Mosl Powerful Women; and WIIEREAS, Councilwoman Salyer was a champion for those experiencing homelessness, a participant in the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness in lVashinglon, D.C., the author of legislation to fund public works of art in City buildings; the author of legislation increasing public safety for solicitors in the median; established the Automobile Alley Main Street Program; attended a leadership institute for Vacant and Abandoned Properties at Harvard Lar.v School; assisted in the Stockyards and Capitol Hill revitalization; developed criteria for use of balconies in Downtown Design Districts; supported a funding plan for the Downtown Sealed Railroad Safety Corridor; encouraged the State to fund the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics; supported healthy food and beverage options in vending machines in City buildings, met with numerous neighborhoods in her Ward regarding home sharing; promoted parklets in the City, Sunday bus serv'ice, passage of Better Streets Safer City; and N{APS 3; and WHEREAS, Councilwoman Salyer has been an inspiration to all u,omen not only in the community, but in City Hall, for her ability to perform her duties as President of Accel Financial Staffing, a mother to Margaret, and her generosity to the community with her time and commitment to make Oklahoma City a better and safer place to live and play.
