Site restrictions at this location involve an existing water storage tank and a rather small site. The Fire Department, together with their architect, have developed plans for the proposed new station. The existing constricted site cannot accommodate the minimum facilities, parking and access requirements for the proposed station. The existing station site lies adjacent to property scheduled for acquisition and clearance and proposed for a new Park Department gym center and potential library facility- This nine acre renewal property proposed for Park Department pur- chase will adequately accommodate all proposed facilities. Due to the fact that this site is to be acquired via BOR matching funds, the acquisition time table is not yet pre- dictabte. However, the nece$sity to proceed with construc- tion of the fire station is immediate, and the need for addi- tional land is urgent. In consultations among the Fire, parks, and Planning Departments and the Urban Renewal Authority, the additional station land requirements have been determined as indicated on the attached RBP, and include renewal acqui- sition parcel 29-2, 29-30, 29-3L, 29-32. Acquisition costs are estimated at approximately $.25 per square foot- The purpose of this memo is to request concurrence of Council of plans to acquire additional fire station land at this 1o- cation and to be authorized to request that Urban Renewal Authority ptace the above described parcels on the highest Council Memo No. l6I4-7L Page 2 priority acquisition schedule for fire station expansion.
