Upon successful cornpletion of Police recruit training school and three weeks of special intensive training, patrols with a cornrnissioned Poli.ce Officer in high activity areas and other neighborhood areas requiring special or rnore intensive Police services using a rnarked radio patrol unit with errrergency, life-saving and other special equiprnent. Ernphasis is on cornrnunicty relations, irnproved understanding and cornrnunications between the Po1ice Departrnent and the as signed nei ghborhood, personal contacts, foste ring cornrnunity under standing and acceptance of the Police Officer and his function within the cornrnunity and special Police related cornrnunity services. Works under close supervision of experienced Police Officer. 'Work is reviewed through close field observation, conferences, reports cornrnunity response and opinion, and through evaluation and appraisal forrns or procedures used in conjunction with the Comrnunity Service Officer prograffI. ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK Assigned to patrol in a specific high activity area with an experienced, cornrnissioned Police Officer in a rnarked, specially equipped radio patrol unit. Perforrns specially selected non-routine functions as deterrnined by the Division Cornrnander and/or the Police Chief. Assists in Police Departrnent cornrnunity relations activities within the assigned area. Confers with and advises citizens on problerns requiring Police services or as si stanc e. Assists in resolving problerns of understanding and cornrnunications between the cornrnunity and the Police Departrnent. Responds to serious traffic, crirninal, dornestic, and accident ernergencies. Using special equiprnent renders on the scene first-aid and life saving assistance.
